The remaining Founders carried on and the group became an incorporated national collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was granted to Alpha chapter at Butler University. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated was founded on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, November 12th, 1922, by seven (7) school teachers – Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Vivian White Marbury, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhodes Martin, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside and Cubena McClure.
